SEDATION TREATMENT

It is estimated that more than half of adults dread visiting the dentist, but for some, the fear is so paralysing that it prevents them from receiving the necessary dental care.

SOLUTION FOR DENTAL PHOBIA

Conscious sedation is a comfortable solution for dental phobia that eliminates this obstacle entirely by placing the patient in a pleasurable, relaxed state for as long as is required, during which they can follow the dentist's instructions. There is no 'hangover,' but they are likely to have amnesia and feel lethargic, with little memory of the procedure.

HOW DOES CONSCIOUS SEDATION WORK?

The back of the patient's forearm is used to administer intravenous solution. Intravenous sedation is the most reliable and potent method of sedation, and for the majority of patients, the treatment seems to pass swiftly.

WHO CAN ADMINISTER SEDATION?

It is not offered at all dental offices. To perform cognizant sedation, clinicians must be qualified. Dr Laura Fee, the principal dentist at Smile Hub Dental Clinic and her patients are meticulously monitored by dental nurses with additional qualifications and conscious sedation training.

HOW TO GET READY FOR SEDATION

Bring an adult who can help you get home and avoid eating within two hours of your appointment.

Put on stable, comfortable shoes and a short-sleeved shirt so we can measure your blood pressure and administer the sedative.

Remove nail polish or false fingernails from at least two fingers.

WHAT DOES SEDATION FEEL LIKE?

Patients remain conscious throughout the entire procedure and can inform us of their level of comfort. Nonetheless, patients frequently recall little about the procedure after the fact. They feel content and calm throughout.

HOW LONG IS SEDATION EFFECTIVE FOR?

As long as required. The procedure is most effective within the first 30 minutes, and its effect can be prolonged through the administration of additional minor doses. Despite the fact that the sedative wears off rapidly, patients may experience lethargy for up to twenty-four hours. Therefore, patients are requested not to:

Operate a vehicle.

Utilise machinery

Prepare food or use a kettle

Sign any legal documents
