Oral SURGERY

WHAT EXACTLY IS ORAL SURGERY?

A surgically trained dental clinician, also known as an oral surgeon, performs oral surgery to extract wisdom teeth, diseased or impacted teeth, and to treat injuries to the mouth, jaw, and face.

Oral surgery can be utilised to treat infants, adolescents, and adults, and is also appropriate for patients with medically complex needs or dental anxiety.

Smile Hub Dental Clinic has its own dental surgeons, so regardless of the complexity of the treatment you require, we can offer you an appointment as soon as possible.

REASONS FOR ORAL SURGERY AT SMILE HUB DENTAL CLINIC

The oral surgeons at Smile Hub Dental Clinic treat a wide variety of mandible, face, and mouth conditions. The most frequent causes of oral surgery are:

Wisdom teeth impaction, which occurs when a wisdom tooth fails to completely erupt, causes swelling, pain, and sometimes infection.

Orthodontic exposures to assist a tooth that has not yet completely erupted to alleviate gum pain and improve tooth alignment.

Extraction of teeth that are problematic, crowded, or misaligned

Elimination of concealed roots and root fragments

Endodontic surgery to save incisors, canines, and premolars.

Surgical intervention is required for mandible-related issues, such as jaw growth issues or TMJ dysfunction.

The implantation of dental implants and associated procedures, such as bone augmentation and bone grafting.

Facial trauma, including fractured mandible or facial fractures

WISDOM TOOTH EXTRACTION

Our ancestors used their wisdom teeth to provide additional chewing power, but they are completely unnecessary for modern diets. Because of this, our jaws rarely develop long enough to comfortably accommodate them, resulting in wisdom teeth that fail to erupt or become impacted, causing damage to neighbouring teeth. In order to prevent further pain, injury, or infection, wisdom tooth extraction is a common procedure.

DENTAL EXTRACTIONS

We will always attempt to preserve your natural teeth whenever possible. However, there are still situations in which extraction is clinically required or strongly recommended. This may include impacted teeth that have failed to erupt or have only partially erupted, overcrowded teeth, irreparably damaged teeth, and infected teeth that pose a threat to your overall health.

ORTHODONTIC EXPOSURES

Not always must impacted teeth be extracted. Using orthodontic exposures, teeth can be encouraged to erupt or realign, depending on their position and condition. This may involve removing a small amount of gum or bone to make room for the impacted tooth and adhering an orthodontic bracket to the exposed tooth to encourage its emergence at a particular angle.

HOW DOES THE TREATMENT PROCESS WORK?

Before beginning treatment, your dentist will discuss your options, the various procedures involved, whether you'll need local or general anaesthesia, and address any questions you may have.
