What's included

The price a tooth covers the shade match, building up the composite, shaping, polishing and a bite check before you leave. The consultation is usually separate: €55 to €70, and free at some practices. There is no VAT on dental treatment.

What pushes it up or down

Edge work costs less than covering the whole tooth. More teeth means a bigger bill but often a lower price a tooth. Whitening first adds about €295 to €390 for a dentist's take-home kit. Grinding may mean a night guard, €150 to €350.

How many teeth people do

One tooth for a chip. Two for a gap between the front teeth. Most smile makeovers are the four or six upper front teeth that show when you smile, and eight if your smile is wide: €720 to €1,300 for four, €1,080 to €1,950 for six.

These are typical prices across the market, not a quote. A dentist confirms your price after looking at your teeth, and you don't pay for anything you haven't agreed to.

Questions

The things people ask first

How much is composite bonding in Dublin?

Typically €180 to €325 a tooth. Edge bonding on the biting edges is €150 to €300, and the six upper front teeth come to about €1,080 to €1,950. The full price guide breaks it down by treatment and area.

Does it hurt, and will you drill my teeth?

In a standard case there's no injection and no drilling. The dentist roughens the enamel so the composite grips, builds it up in layers and sets it with a light. Most people find it boring rather than sore.

How long does it take?

Usually one visit. A few teeth take an hour or two; six or eight teeth can take a morning. You eat and drink as normal the same day.

How long does composite bonding last?

Usually 4 to 7 years before it needs a polish, a repair or redoing, and longer with care. What makes it last.

Who will do the work?

A dentist on the Dental Council register. Only a registered dentist can do bonding in Ireland, and you get the dentist's name before you go. How to check the register.

Will I be chased by lots of clinics?

No. One dental practice in your part of Dublin gets your request, not a list. They ring you to offer a consultation, and nothing is booked unless you say yes.

What does the first appointment cost?

Most practices charge €55 to €70 for an exam or cosmetic consultation, and some do it free. Sending a request through this site is free.

Can I claim tax back?

Possibly. Revenue gives 20% relief on non-routine dental treatment, and its list includes veneers and etched fillings. Your dentist signs a Med 2 form. Ask before treatment whether your bonding will be certified that way.
